55 years ago, we opened our very first Motel 6 property in Santa Barbara on June 25, 1962.
THE CONCEPT: The original founders wanted to develop a motel with bargain rates and they decided that their rooms would be $6.00 per night.
THE TIMELINE: In 1965 Motel 6 opened its 15th location and it’s first location outside of California in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. In the 1970s, Motel 6 opened its largest location, Las Vegas – Tropicana. In 1972, the company moved East and opened a property in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and by 1980 the company had opened 300 locations.
