The NFL Schedule
The National Football League is America’s most popular sports league, with tens of thousands of fans cheering on their favorite team during the regular season, NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl.
The regular season is 17 weeks long and stretches from September to January before teams from each division compete in the playoffs for a chance to make an appearance at the Super Bowl, the league championship game. This season, Super Bowl LII| will be played February 3, 2019 in Atlanta, GA at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Each year the Super Bowl is one of America’s most coveted sports tickets and it’s the country’s biggest sports spectacle.
The NFL has continued to add teams over the years and now boast 32 franchise in cities all over the United States. Several games featuring US teams are also held in London and Mexico throughout the season.
The NFL dates back to 1920, when the American Professional Football Association made its debut. Two years later it was renamed the National Football League. However, the league as we know it was not created until 1996, when the NFL merged with the American Football League.
The league has since emerged as America’s most popular sport and it has produced some of the most recognizable names in sports history, including Jerry Rice and Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers, Johnny Unitas of the Colts, and contemporary greats like Peyton Manning of the Broncos and Colts, and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.
NFL Game days
Most NFL games are played on Sundays, however games are also scheduled on Thursdays, Mondays and sometimes on Saturdays. Fans attending games often partake in the great American past time of tailgating — essentially a pre-party in the parking lot at stadium where fans eat and drink before the game. Each team has its own particular traditions before, during and after games, but a passion for football and friendly rivalries is the underlining theme.
